These last few chapters were pretty intense because so much happens in these last 5 chapter. In the begging of chapter 13 Laurie is about to go sit with Amy to watch the football game, and talk to her about David and show her what she’s going to write in the next paper, they watched the football game every Saturday, but that Saturday was different because Brad had stopped Laurie to get her to do the wave salute before she could go up into the stands, But Laurie refused to do the stupid wave salute, so Brad wouldn’t let her up, then frustrated Laurie walked away. So later on that day Laurie caught up to Amy and showed her what she was putting in the next paper. Amy’s response was you can’t publish this, it’s putting down the wave. And I think this whole thing with David is going to your head, Laurie was shocked on what Amy had said.

Laurie had published her article in the news paper, and some people were quitting the wave as for others including Robert Billings thought that she couldn’t write this and that something had to be done, So he told David to talk to her and tell stop writing stuff about the wave, because If she’ll listen to anyone it would be David.

That night Laurie and other news paper staff had a party in the publications, to celebrate the success of the paper. After the party Laurie was left to clean the room because everyone else left, and it was dark now. Laurie went to her locker to put her books away and she found the word enemy spray painted on her locker door, Laurie started to get scared, then all of a sudden she heard foot steps they were coming closer, so she ran to the exit doors but they were locked so she ran to the other door and the door flung open. And she was stilling running.

David and Brad were waiting for Laurie to come by so David could talk to her, David knows when its dark Laurie walks by the 24 hour tennis court because the lights makes her feel safe. David sees Laurie, so he gets out to talk to her. David tries to talk to talk to her but she’s walking away so he grabs her arm and tells her that she can’t write those things about the wave, but Laurie says yes I can and I will.  David is getting mad and frustrated so he grabs her other arm and through’s her to the ground. Laurie starts crying a little, then all at once David realizes what the wave is doing to him because he just hurt someone he still cares about, David falls to the ground and hugs Laurie and apologizes. Then Brad drives away.

On that same night Ben’s wife is telling Ben that the wave has to end the next day and that principle Owens wants to see him in the office first thing. Ben doesn’t want to end the wave but he has no choice so he tells her he will end it the next day. Ben was just about to go to bed when he hears a knock at his door, its Laurie and David. He invites them in and they tell Ben what had happened that night and that Ben had to stop the wave the next day, Ben told them that he was going to do that and told them not to tell anyone that they had been there that night, and that he had a plan.

The next day Ben went to the office and before principle Owens could say anything Ben said I’m going to end the wave, and then told Owens the plan. Owens said that Ben had told the end of the day. Laurie and David showed up to school acting like nothing had happened that night. When they were in Ben’s class, Ben had said that he had something special to say at a rally that night at 5 o’clock wave members only, he also said that the reason for this rally was because the wave wasn’t just in their class its national and that they would see their leader at th rally. David and Laurie stood up and said that he’s trying to trick you the wave isn’t good, Ban said sit down but they kept saying the wave was bad, and then Ben said go to the office so they did, and Owens said that everything is going to be okay but Laurie and David couldn’t believe what was happening.

It was 5 o’clock and Laurie and David managed to sneak into the rally. At the rally there was a screen and it was white and black and static for a long time, then someone from the crowd said there is no leader is there, so the body-guards led him out. Then on the screen Hitler showed up, and then Ben said that is your leader, you guys are no better than the people in Nazi Germany, you all let my control you and you guys were willing to give up your freedom to feel superior to non wave members, you guys abused and tried to convince people who weren’t in the wave to join. After that speech people left crying, Amy ran up to Laurie and hugged her and said sorry. Ben Ross did not get fired.

The author did a really good job on writing this book because he fit so  much information in 17 small chapters.  I think that he didn’t have that much detail through out the book but that made it good, because it lets you’re imagination go wild and it lets you create the people in your mind, which makes the book interesting.

I thought that Ben was going to get fired but he didn’t, which really surprises me because he caused so much trouble with his experiment, and so many people complained  about it but he still never got fired. I’m really fascinated on how Ben ended the wave, and it fascinates me because I don’t get how he came up with the idea I thought he would have done something like telling them that the wave has to stop and it had to stop now.

If I were Ben and people were telling me that I have to stop the wave, I would have so many thought s running through my head and I wouldn’t know where to begin on coming up with a plan to end the wave. Also If I were Ben I would have tried to not let it go to far, I know it’s harder than it seems but I still would have tried to not to let it get out of hand.

I think that the wave was really controlling people because it took David hurting someone he cared for him to realize that wave wasn’t as good as it was put out to be. I really disliked how David was mean to Laurie to see that the wave was controlling him, and I did like that David went to talk to Laurie, instead of someone else in the wave because something bad could have happened to Laurie and Laurie and David wouldn’t be together.

I predict this taught a good lesson and the people in Ben’s class will be careful on what they fallow and what they are told. I also predict that Laurie and David will get married when they are older. I also thing Amy will go out with Brian but I don’t think it will last to long. This was a great book to read, I think it turned out good after this experience and its kinda hard to believe that this really happened.

In these chapters 9-12 there was more conflict with characters and that made it a little more interesting to read. Ben started a little history experiment that turned into a fad or obsession. When Laurie got to the publications room there was a note on the floor that said that he was getting told to join the wave but he didn’t want to, and the seniors said that if he didn’t join all his friends would ditch him. When Laurie read that she started to see the wave for what it is, on the way to the wave rally she tells David what she thinks the wave is and he thinks that she saying that it’s not good because she isn’t center of attention again, and that when the wave wasn’t there she was a smart student and now everyone is equal, and that Laurie should get a new boyfriend that is as smart as her!! After that Laurie went to the publications room to sit there because she didn’t want to go to the rally, while she was there some other kids who didn’t want to go to the wave. While they were there they decided to meet at Laurie’s house that Saturday to write an article that exposes the wave for what it is. That same night Laurie was to upset to talk to anyone but her dad came in and asked about the boy who got beaten up, and said that the boy was Jewish, Laurie said it was nothing like that.

Before David broke up with Laurie Ben Ross was walking down the hall, and Robert Billings  stopped him and said i want to be your body-guard, Ben said why would I need a body-guard?? Robert said you’re our leader and we don’t want you to get hurt. Ben said yes and he was shocked because he didn’t think they would take the wave that serious.

I think these chapters were pretty intense because so much happened in such a short time. I think if I were Laurie I would have told my parents that the wave was getting out of hand and we need to stop it, but I like how she took the next step by writing an article about what the wave is and how it’s affecting her school. I also think that the boy who gotten beat up didn’t want to join the wave because he was Jewish and thought the wave was like joining the Nazis, the reason I think he thinks its like the Nazis is because they force people to join and if they don’t they get harassed until they do join. I predict Laurie’s article will open eyes and David will apologize and ask if she could forgive him. I also predict that Ben will get fired for starting this and his wife will leave him. I think Robert will become friends with Laurie and David when the wave blows over.
I think the characters changed a lot in these chapters like Laurie used to like the wave but now she doesn’t want to be apart of it, and David  is obsessed with it and broke up Laurie, Amy doesn’t really hang out with Laurie any more. Ben is getting in trouble for this by the principle. Robert is a totally a different person he is well dressed now and has friends, and is letting the wave go to his head.

Five steps I think Laurie has to go through to stop the wave
Step 1: She’ll have to realize and accept what the wave really is.
Step 2: Tell her parents about her thoughts on the wave.
Step 3: Find others who  think the wave is bad to help her stop the wave.
Step 4: Write the article about what the wave is doing and what it really is.
Step 5: Give the paper to the principle.

The Wave The Next 4 chapters

These chapters were way more interesting than the first ones because this is when the experiment starts. In chapter the beginning of chapter five  Ben goes to class and everything is normal but he wants to try his game/experiment with his students. Ben walked to the front of the class and wrote STRENGTH THROUGH DISCIPLINE on the chalk board. His students asked whats that supposed to say but Ben wouldn’t say until they were seated at their desks. The first step in his experiment was to explain what he wrote on the chalk board. Step 2 was discipline begins with posture. Ben called Amy to the front and told her to  put her hands flat across her back and force her spine straight. Ben said that is the way to sit in your class from now on.  Step 3 was getting into your desks with the proper posture without their being pushing or shoving , Ben said the quicker and more controlled you are the faster you will get to your seats. They practiced that for twenty minutes. Then they made a line out in the hallway, and they were in order the person who had to go the farthest had to go in the front. Ben timed them and their time was 16 seconds. The next day they learned mottos and came up with a symbol, member ship cards, and a hand shake.
Laurie’s boyfriend David was on the foot ball team and his team hasn’t won a game, so David decides the team should try to do a similar thing to the wave.  The team agreed that they should try to act more like a team and not 26 one man teams wearing their school football uniform.
I was surprised when Robert was sitting with David and his crew, because I thought that Robert wouldn’t fit in and wouldn’t want to do the wave activity but I think he likes being told what to do, because everyone is doing it so he does it so that he fits in and feels apart of something. It also surprised me when Laurie went against it even though she was arguing with her mom saying that Ben wasn’t manipulating her class. If I was Laurie or someone in Ben’s class I wouldn’t have let him control me like that because I’d rather be independent instead of a person who lets people control their lives, and if I was Laurie I would have listened to mother and wouldn’t go along with it.
I predict Laurie will go against the wave and, her and David will break up because she doesn’t want nothing to do with the wave. I also predict that Davids football team will win a game thanks to the new thing they are doing. I also predict that Ben’s wife will get mad because Ben is ignoring her, If I was his wife I would get mad to because he’s caught up in the wave  stuff and ignoring me when i ask him to do something. I hope in the next chapters Laurie doesn’t participate in the wave and tries to stop it.

The Wave The First 4 Chapters

The book is based on a true story and people say that it was like a reenactment of the holocaust. The people who took part of the experiment pretended it didn’t happen until Oprah found the teacher who planned the experiment and brought him on to her show, not to long after that there was a book made telling the story of what happened at that school. The teacher was a history teacher at Cubberley High School in Palo Alto. The author of the book is Todd Strasser.

In the begging of the book there is a teacher named Ben Ross he doesn’t really know haw to do a lot of handy man work, and he is a history teacher at Cubberley High School in Palo Alto.  In his class he did a lesson on the holocaust, in his lesson he put on a video about the holocaust but he had to ask David to set up the projector because Ben doesn’t know how to set it up ,  his students were really disturbed  by the video and kept asking a lot of questions about, why the Germans just let it happen but Ben couldn’t answer them. There was one student that slept through the video and his name is Robert Billings (he’s and out cast and gets picked on a lot) Laurie is one of  Ben’s students really bothered by this movie and doesn’t get why the Germans just sat there while the Nazis (which were a smaller group) killed a whole bunch of people. Ben got an idea to do an experiment with his class to show what the Germans felt like and why they just went along with it.

I predict the experiment will go as planned  but Ben will enjoy it so much that he will get over whelmed by the power he has over the students in his class and he will keep on doing it and it wouldn’t be an experiment it would be a every day routine .  I also think that Robert will still be the out cast and the other students will be the Germans and Ronald will be like the Jews, and he will be picked on even more than usual.

I think this book is interesting and my favorite part so far is when they watch the movie, that part is my favorite part because everyone is shocked and is asking a whole bunch of questions that people don’t really know the answers to, If I was one of those students I would have asked what would u have done if you were one of the Germans?  I didn’t really get why the author used the beginning when Laurie is at the news paper room, To me it didn’t make sense unless he was just trying to describe the school, but if wasn’t that I don’t think it makes sense. I was really surprised when people  were that shocked over that video even though that happened a while ago, and it won’t happen again. These chapters were okay but I think the book will pick up in the next chapters.
